New gig.

I got a new job. Its awesome. I work with all kinds of people who make things all day for a living. Designers and materials developers. They work with fabrics and make and design components. Gear and apparel is stacked everywhere and all around me. All kinds of crazy testing stuff. Sewing machines and patterns. Tents, packs, socks, cookware.

The energy is good. Today someone was in the testing area making crepes for everyone. Complete with pancetta, marscarpone with orange zest in it, whipped cream, berries, ...basically any topping you could ever want for your crepe desires. Life is gooooood.

Beauties.

Meeting with the guy who makes these nuggets of joy on Thursday. Hoping to see if we work out some sort of apprenticeship. Wish me luck<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Wood.

I've been yapping on and on about wanting to build a table. Turns out, a guy from work actually builds furniture in his spare time. Jackpot! He's even got this sick garage of tool delights that includes things like a jointer, a wood planer and various forms of giant saws.

A few weeks back we picked up some reclaimed wood, some from an old automotive workshop and some from an old brewery. Thick 5x5 beams for legs and some substantial planks for the top.

It was great because John gave me direction but ultimately let me do all of the work myself so that I could learn. In my dreams I wish I was a furniture designer/maker and I had all of John's tools and garage and work bench. I would pour myself a cup of tea and head out to make stuff.

It was a total effing blast and within three hours we were able to: 

+ Cut all of the pieces to size 

+ Use the jointer to straighten all of the edges 

+ Run all of the wood through the planer - which by the way, revealed the most incredible wood grain for the table top. 

+ And then clamp it all together so that we could see the fruits of our labor with a little mock-up of the table sans the skirt. Super duper fun!

 

SUN.

I can't believe it. Its been sunny and in the fifties all weekend and it is nothing short of dreamy. Now certainly there has also been a contingent of Seattle who too cannot believe it and apparently took things to extremes with a friend reporting bikini sightings yesterday. Oh the hilarity of people who never see the sun during the winter months and what it can do to a person's psyche. Tyson and I headed to Snoqualmie Pass for our first official xcountry skiing adventure - aside from the "urban skiing" we did a few weeks back. Ninth grade gym class aside, I've been wanting to get into xcountry skiing for a while and I must say it totally rocks. We were out and in the sun and mountains yesterday, just scooting along. Super.

She is such a treasure in my life and I'm so grateful for her. She is heading to Florida tomorrow with her siblings and we already discussed bikini opportunities for her. Sounds as though she'll settle for a green one-piece. Adorable.
