progress.

Bess and I spent the day working! She on her yard, me on the bench. I was able to finish sanding the entire bench - all of the pieces! Next steps: tongue oil and staining. (notice I snuck in the MINI in one of the shots)

MINI.

My new baby.

I want one...

Noles, I may need your help! I want to buy a commercial space and turn it into my home! Maybe start looking this fall...or something(wink). No but really, I want to find an existing space that's interesting, renovate and help make the city better in its existing form -rather than tearing something down etc; THEN, this sweet architect couple succeeded in creating a solar-powered house that meets their high design standards while costing almost nothing to run. I want that. K? Great!

Soooo Hip Hop

colorful people, colorful photos

BBo came up from Portland for a little visit last weekend with Will. I LOVE HER! I really miss having her in Seattle. We had a great afternoon shopping in the U. District and then headed over to Ballard for some Thai food. I really like Will too (he's in blue). I'm happy they have found each other.

famous.

Whew! Its been a while since I posted! Last week I was able to be and 'Extra' in one of our TV shoots for the Seattle Art Museum. It was pretty cool to witness the behind the scenes...and actually a lot more boring than one would think (at least for an extra). My scene was VERY poignant (sarcasm). The main character sat on a bench looking at a painting. I was on the other end of said bench. He looked over at me and then back to the painting. Then I looked over at him, and back to the painting. I know. Loads of talent! We'll see if I end up on the cutting room floor. I'll keep you posted.

sad.

I just finished The War Tapes (documentary trailer in an earlier post). I really can't imagine anything like being at war. These men and women are faced with such absolute fear and adrenaline. Their fear and ignorance creates a state of mind so unthinkably screwed up. Some of the soldiers made derogatory comments about the Iraqi people throughout the film that aboslutely enraged me. These soldiers don't learn about the culture of Iraq. And ignorance breeds prejudice...then hate. ...but then I try my hardest to put myself in their shoes and the madness they face on a daily basis. How could a person possibly think like a sane human being? I watched the families living back here in the U.S. while their partners fought. When the soldiers returned there was footage of the planes landing and the buses of soldiers rolling down the road to meet their families while people saluted. Chills. Thinking about those men and women and what they faced and now they are home. Home will never, ever be the same. Though I have never supported this war and have never agreed with the reasons given to invade Iraq, I really hope some sort of worthwhile outcome is possible.

Easter egg hunt|mimosas|squirt guns

I was graciously invited to an Easter brunch on Sunday. Not knowing what to expect I foresaw the usual yummy eats and some fun times with friends. Nope. WAY BETTER! Everyone received personalized Easter baskets from our thoughtful hostesses containing many items including squirt guns for all. We headed to the outdoor patio for a hilarious squirt gun fight and an Easter egg hunt like I've never experienced before...keeping in mind we'd each had at least two - maybe more - mimosas/bloody mary's etc; at this point. Good times as an adult.

Buckley's back!

My great friend Lisa Buckley is back in Seattle after a ski season in Aspen. Couldn't be happier really. We celebated with a bottle of wine and some Belgian beers. Look for crazy summer stories because wherever Lisa is, good things happen.

john and teresa heinz kerry

Tonight I went and saw Senator John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry speak. They have co-authored a book called "This Moment on Earth. Today's New Environmentalists and Their Vision for the Future". It was really fun to see Senator Kerry speak and even more so to see his fiery wife. Much of the information wasn't new about global warming, the current administration and their lack of leadership in making responsible laws for the sake of the environment and ways we can change our lifestyles to try and leave this earth better than when we entered it. One tiny interesting tidbit was just a quick comment about Asia and their escalators? I didn't realize they are putting in escalators that stop moving when no one is on them! Nice idea. And I specifically remember being in China and having to put the hotel room key in a slot in order to operate the lights. That way, its impossible to leave them on wasting energy all day. Why don't we do that here? At one point during the Q&A at the end, a crazy right-wing gal (not saying right-wing people are crazy, this gal was) got up to the mic and started a small uproar. It was great. Teresa went over right next to the gal and they had some banter and I loved it. In the end I had my book signed by both John and Teresa (that's me in the picture with Teresa!)...however, both the woman in front of me and behind me hogged Senator Kerry's ear and I didn't even shake his hand or say hello. I would've asked him to give Barack a high five and asked who he's voting for in '08. ahh well. Note the great 12 year old with the Barack t-shirt (and John and Teresa in the background). Love it.

new project

April Fool's

L, one of the best players on my team showed up to practice yesterday in street clothes, hair down and with her arm wapped and hanging in a sling. She said she'd sprained her wrist this weekend playing on her stairs/banister. We have a tournament this weekend! I was so bummed. L asked if I wanted to see the bruise and I said sure, as long as it didn't hurt her to take off the bandages. She unwrapped everything only to reveal 'APRIL FOOL'S!' written in marker on her forearm. Hilarious.
